Sakhile&Me presents works by Owanto, Adelaide Damoah and Mbali Dhlamini at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London. Owanto's Flowers series showcases enlarged archival pictures of a FGM/C ceremony, with sections of the images removed and covered with hand-crafted porcelain flowers as a symbolic masking of identity and emphasizing of wholeness rather than loss. Adelaide Damoah works at the intersection of painting and performance, using her body to create works within the context of colonialism, identity, sexuality and spirituality. Mbali Dhlamini's archival images of West African women investigate knowledge systems and the importance of indigenous philosophies in contemporary societies. More...

Okore's richly textured fiber sculptures sprout from the walls like organisms growing out to meet the space. Sakhile&Me shows works by Osi Audu, Nnenna Okore, Ghizlane Sahli, Bambo Sibiya and Adejoke Tugbiyele at Cologne Fine Art. Osi Audu's abstract and geometric "self portraits" form part of the artist's exploration into the tangible and intangible qualities of the self. The intricate textures and vibrant colours of Okore's works explore themes of transience and transformation, whereas Ghizlane Sahli's silk-thread sculptures and drawings are inspired by her interest in architecture, embroidery and environmental sustainability. Bambo Sibiya's paintings are intricate compositions full of historical references and political commentary, whereas Tugbiyele's sculptures explore her own identity as a queer woman of Nigerian descent.
