Who We Are

About Us

Sakhile&Me was founded in 2018 in Frankfurt/Main (Germany) by Sakhile Matlhare and Daniel Hagemeier. The gallery represents an international roster of contemporary artists working across disciplines. A key focus is to champion artists of color through curated solo exhibitions and collaborative presentations while drawing attention to contextual specificity in and through art – in content, medium and genre – in an effort to highlight diverse perspectives of historic, cultural and social realities. Sakhile holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Northwestern University, writing her dissertation on "Contemporary African Artists as Producers and Secondary Arbiters in the Gatekeeping Process“ and is a member of the Art Cologne Selection Committee. Daniel holds a Master’s degree in Digital Communications from the University of Sydney.

Several artists had their first solo exhibition in Germany with the gallery (Nnenna Okore in 2018; Kevin Demery and Ghizlane Sahli in 2019; Owanto in 2020; Tagne William Njepe, Raelis Vasquez and Adelaide Damoah in 2021; Mbali Dhlamini and Sekai Machache in 2022; Mario Joyce in 2023). Collaborative exhibitions include Zanele Muholi and Lindeka Qampi in 2019; Wangari Mathenge, Mario Moore, Anike Joyce Sadiq and Lerato Shadi in 2021; Kitso Lynn Lelliott and Tuli Mekondjo in 2022; and Valerie Amani, Philip Crawford, Samuel Baah Kortey, Sekai Machache and Ato Ribeiro in 2023. At Art Cologne, the gallery presented collaborative presentations by Osi Audu and Mario Moore in 2022 and Anike Joyce Sadiq and Raelis Vasquez in 2023.
