Eun-Joo Shin

Eun-Joo Shin is a multidisciplinary artist best known for her distinctive style of painting in which she achieves a light watercolor effect while painting with oil on canvas. This unusual approach to working with oil paint allows the artist to create subtle details in her work. Shin uses her unique technique to capture people she knows or encounters in her daily life, particularly acquaintances and friends who are fellow residents of Frankfurt. The intimate composition of her portraits and scenic paintings takes on a likeness to a series of candid photo shots of every day life.

In 1991, Shin completed her studies in Korean Painting at the Chu-Gye University of Arts in Seoul with a Bachelor of Arts and in 1994 she received her Master of Arts degree in Painting from Se-Jong University in Seoul. She worked as an art teacher at the Sang Mueng Primary School in Seoul from 1991 to 1996 before relocating to Frankfurt in 1996 and beginning to study Free Graphics at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart in 1998, graduating from the program in 2004.

Eun-Joo Shin has been the recipient of grants and scholarships by institutions such as the Association for International Cultural Exchange - Künstlerwege, the Förderkreis Bildender Künstler Württemberg, the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, the City of Frankfurt Department for Culture, the International Art Forum - Schloß Eichenhof and the Hessen State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Arts. Her work has been acquired by public collections including the Hypobank Stuttgart, the Ellwanger & Geiger bank in Stuttgart, the city of Trossingen, the City of Frankfurt Department for Arts and Sciences, the City of Frankfurt Department for Culture and most recently the Art Collection Main-Taunus-Kreis and the Municipal Art Gallery Bietigheim-Bissingen. Eun-Joo Shin lives and works in Frankfurt.
