Who we are

Sakhile&Me was founded by Sakhile Matlhare and Daniel Hagemeier. Matlhare holds a doctoral degree from Northwestern University and wrote her dissertation on how contemporary artists work alongside art curators, historians, gallerists, and other experts in the gatekeeping process within and beyond the rubric of contemporary African art. Hagemeier holds a Master's degree in Communication from the University of Sydney and has worked with his father, Achim Hagemeier, specializing in Expressionist and Classical Modern art, since 2014.

What we do

Sakhile&Me is a contemporary art space working with emerging and established international artists, creative entrepreneurs and curators, with a focus on Africa and its diasporas. The gallery promotes the work of artists and expands their visibility on the continent and abroad through group and solo exhibitions, art fair participation, placement of works in private and public collections, and cooperation with other galleries. We also engage audiences on an interactive level through expert lectures and talks, explorative workshops, and publications.
